Magic Supplies

The magic supplies needed for a trick vary widely from trick to trick. Simple tricks require only a prop, such as a deck of cards, and a charismatic performance to carry them off. Other tricks such as the rabbit in a hat trick; require a little more effort… and a rabbit.

Common props, or magic supplies can often be supplied by your mark or another member of an audience. A common scenario is to ask your mark if he has item x, where item x is anything from a cell phone to a wallet to money, either in paper or coin format. Using the subjects’ own item in a trick provides an added level of reality. And in the end, magic is about selling the reality of what you are doing to your audience.

Some supplies for tricks may seem surprising to you. For instance clothing must be modified for many tricks that require you to stash something in a sleeve or coat lining. While some prefer to make these modifications themselves, others would rather save time and just buy a modified garment from the store.
