Magic Decks

A magic card deck is most often just an ordinary deck of cards in the hands of a skilled illusionist. The magic lies in the cleaver manipulation of cards by the magician rather than in the cards themselves.

There are some joke decks that can be used as a prop in magic shows, such as a deck filled with 52 variants of the same card, but these are far less common than the tricks which can be done with an ordinary deck. They are often used as comic relief in a professional’s show, and can be used to similar effect at parties. “Real magicians” frown on earnest use of fake decks as a faker’s attempt at real magic.

Magic decks can also refer to tarot cards. Tarot cards are supposed to enable a user to read their future. Instead of the traditional four suits: hearts, spades, diamonds, and clubs tarot cards have their own suits. These suits are not always the same, depending on the type of cards used, but they can include cups, swords, crowns, coins, batons, and most decks include a fool, though this is not considered a suit.
