Magic Card
Do a search for magic card sometime. What do you find? You will find the obligatory Wikipedia pages on topics such as sleight of hand, or trick card decks. You will find a few online stores selling magic supplies or just cards in general. You will also find page upon page of information on Magic: The Gathering. What is this thing, and why are there thousands of fan pages on it?
Magic: The Gathering- or MTG- is a card game developed by a mathematics professor named Richard Garfield. He sold the rights to the game to Wizards of the Coast; and in 1993 the first MTG decks were sold. Unlike normal card decks, which consist of 52 cards split into four identical suits, MTG are bought in small packages like sports cards.
In MTG a game is supposed to represent a battle of powerful wizards. It has a complex set of rules that often contradicts itself. The point of the game is to defeat your opponents by killing them. This is done with the cards, with cards representing spells, creatures, and other things at the imaginary wizard’s command. The game caught on quickly with those who go to gamer conventions, as was intended by Wizards of the Coast. Surprisingly however, it also caught on with strategy fans because of the complex sets of counters in the game.
In the 15 years since its inception MTG has taken off commercially with a player base of more than 6 million now, it is the largest trading card game in the world. It has won several awards and continues to be popular among gamers today. However if you are searching for information on trick card decks or magic cards, it is more of a nuisance than anything else. After all, who wants to spend their time sifting through dozens of sites on one topic that happens to completely incorporate the wording of what you’re really searching for?
Unfortunately for magic card enthusiasts there is no easy shortcut that will weed out all the information that isn’t pertinent. However there are advanced search options that will make your life easier. For instance under Google’s advanced search, you can choose not to include sites that include the words “the gathering” in your results. While this will not weed out every MTG site, it will greatly up your pertinent search results.
Once you have dispensed with most of the riffraff, you can search for results on magic cards that you can actually use. There will be you tube videos explaining various card tricks. Online arcades where you can play card games, and even books that will teach you magic card tricks. Hope this article helps you find the search results you are after.
One thing to remember is that magic cards are often not magic at all. They are simply ordinary cards in the hands of someone practiced in the arts of sleight of hand, illusion, and misdirection. So when learning card tricks remember there is no prop that can substitute for dedication and practice. Some tricks may take years to master to the degree where they can be performed in front of an audience.
